Some Random Artsy Pictures from Italy and France (SRAPIF)
hey so i thought i might as well put up some (just a few though i went a little bit crazy and took MILLIONS) of photos i took during my semester abroad this jan-apr. so wohoo.
mostly of florence (where i was) some of la bella roma, et un peu des photos parisiennes...
to start off..
graffiti in una strada fiorentina (a random street in florence)
such crazy graffito all over!
then...
piazza della signoria (fl.) reflected in a window of a cafe (finestrino dell'cafe) pre-easter...
even the wrapping of the eggs is so aesthetically pleasing and done with such panache!
lord knows how many times i took pictures in the loggia dei lanzi (below)
but it is kinda one of my favorite places EVER!! the scupltures and the light and the benches and the view and all of it= magnificent!
above: Benvenuto Cellini's Perseus (holding the head of medusa) (left), The Rape of Polyxena by Pio Fedi (worked in 19th century) (right) , Palazzo Vecchio (behind)
different view of Polyxena
also a photo i found on wikicommons (didn't take it, nope) of it in ye olden days of c.1870's when they put it in the loggia
wohoo.
more later!

NEW YORK: Andrea Della Robbia's "St Michael" lunette fell from its perch atop a doorway last monday, June 30 2008. Although it broke into many pieces, officials stated that a preliminary examination concluded that the damage was not irrevocable- it will be displayed again in the museum in the near future.Surprisingly, this is not the first time that an incident of this sort has occurred at the lauded museum- the New York Times states that" In 2002 a 15th-century marble statue of Adam by the Venetian sculptor Tullio Lombardo crashed to the ground in the Velez Blanco Patio, scattering its arms, legs and an ornamental tree trunk into dozens of pieces. The 6-foot-3-inch statue tipped over when one side of the four-inch-high base of its pedestal buckled. The statue is still being studied with the goal of restoration, and it was never determined what caused its pedestal to collapse" (July 2, 2008).
Hmm... molto interessante...

PS.
The Sculpture "may have done a back flip in the air as it fell, causing it to land relatively flat on its reverse side and sparing it “catastrophic damage." ..??
Terracotta enters Olympic Trials...?
